Description:
The Gran Bahia Príncipe Tulum Resort is formed by two 5 stars hotels with a total of 1,440 rooms, the commercial and entertainment center "Hacienda Doña Isabel" and the best variety of services in the Caribbean. Designed by the prestigious Mexican architect, Fernando Quirarte, and inspired by the Puuc Mayan architectural period, the Gran Bahía Príncipe Tulum Hotel welcomes its guests with all of Mexican's characteristic warmth. Materials such as stone, talavera pottery, marble, large palapas, hardwoods and an exquisite colour combination make the hotel a cool and harmonious place that is easy to discover and enjoy. The project was carried out following patterns of sustained tourism in order to make the best use of all the area's resources. The kilometre-long beach is completely natural, and large, manicured gardens will make your strolls around the complex all the more enjoyable. Modern energy-saving and water-processing systems, among others, illustrate the hotel's concern for the environment. Thanks to its situation, its project and its facilities and services, the Hotel Bahía Principe Akumal is known in the Riviera Maya as an excelent hotel of five stars. The resort follows patterns of sustained tourism. Walking through the property you can admire the wonderful tropical vegetation, nice gardens and protected areas where ecology and architecure combine perfectly. You will enjoy a wide, varied gastronomic offer in the five restaurants in the hotel: the Main Restaurant with an international buffet; three restaurants with Italian specialities, International Gourmet and fish; and an American style snack bar with fast food 24/24. You can also quench your thirst or try our special cocktails in the six bars around the different areas of the hotel: three on the beach, one inside the swimming pool, one in the amphitheatre or entertainment room and a lobby bar. You also have the Bars and Restaurants in different styles of the Hacienda Doña Isabel (extra charge). Suitable dress is required for access to the main restaurant and diners may not wear swinsuits. Long trousers are also required in the themed restaurants. You'll be able to enjoy the following sports: kayaking; windsurfing; catamarans; diving and scuba (free demonstration in the swimming-pool and courses for advanced divers); bikes for use within the hotel's confines; 3 (floodlit) tennis courts; golf on two courses in the surrounding area; football; basketball; volleyball; aerobics; riding, etc.And if that's not enough for you, you can always follow our programmes of daytime and evening entertainment for adults and children, with the participation of our entertainment team.*****Hurricane Policy for Bahia Principe Clubs & Resorts******If a storm has been declared a Hurricane Category 1 or higher the following policies and procedures will apply: (This is NOT applicable to Tropical Storms)If the guest feels the need to leave only within the time period mentioned above KIPPIN (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) will issue a hotel credit for travel up to the end of the year for the number of unused nights. This hotel was very nice and comfortable. It's at the southern reach of the resort hotels on the Mayan Riviera. Below it - and Tulum - is the Biosphere which should help protect an area that is being overdeveloped. The beach in front of the hotel had alot of broken coral but swim areas are provided by large rocks (or poured concrete) which forms a barrier and around which the crystal white sand accumulates. The resort is actually 3 - if you don't like the beach out front you can go up the the Prinicipe Akumal where there's a sandy and smooth swimming/snokeling area with fishes. Get there early since it tends to get a bit crowded later on. You can eat/drink for free at the other areas, and you can easily walk to them or take the trolly (particularly for the evening ala carte dinners). The staff was extremely pleasant -moreso than the predominantly european guests. Since the resort is just north of Tulum it is a great stepping stone for exploration. We have seen the ruins at Tulum, so we checked instead on Coba and the very small Muyil ruin bordering the Biosphere. We had a rental car which is expensive but facilitates exploration and we broke even on this anyway since our trips would have cost alot for the family. Shopping is good up the coast at Playa del Carmen but it is real touristy. I would recommend shopping in Tulum which is a better bargain and less developed. Food in the hotel is very varied and all of it is `marked' with signs. The grounds are immaculate with lots of iguanas. Drinks are everywhere ...

It started off horrible but ended great! The property is HUGE!!! There are 3 resorts in one that are all very similar. The beaches are VERY different, make sure you check AKUMAL and COBA for swimming and snorkeling! TULUM beach is very, VERY rocky. We didn't relize the size of the resort and were very upset about TULUM beach at the start. RESERVATION FOR DINNER - VERY hard to come by! Thankfully there are three enormous buffet's. We were able to eat at a Gourmet and a Hibachi style resurant during our stay ONLY BECAUSE some people cancelled on there resorvations. We really had no other options. The resort is set up for everyone to use the buffet's. MALL - There is even a mall to shop for clothes and Gifts with a spactacular open court yard! Service - NO TIP - NO DIRTY LOOKS. it was nice not to be preasured into giving extra gratuity. Our first trip and it went very well! I would reccomend this to anyone that HAS READ THIS REVIEW FIRST!!!!

After researching numerous resorts, looking at reviews and talking to people on a forum we decided to go with the Bahia. It was our first time in Mexico. We had the best time ever. The Manager x was great she honored our request for ocean view and was there to greet us when we arrived. The entire staff was great as well. Anything we asked for we got. The rooms were very clean and the mini bar was restocked daily. The view was unbelievable. The food was very good as well. The steak place, snack bar and buffets were good.Service was great in all places. We had no problem getting drinks, chairs at the pool or beach. The beach was beautiful not a lot of rocks. Everything was fantastic. I would highly recommend this place. The drive from the airport took us and hour and it was not that bad. I do recommend you get private transportation like we did. They say it takes longer if you don't. Best vacation ever!!

I don't have any other experiences to compare my trip to Tulum on however I had a fabulous time. I think the rates were reasonable...the food, drinks, entertainment, hospitality, etc were more than I expected. I spent most of my time at the pool or beach and the entertainment was awesome. They made everyone excited to participate! The disco was fun too!
