the grand oasis riviera maya was a great time. i recently vacationed there from 7/3-7/9/08. i stayed in a ocean front room, that was literally 20 yards from the ocean!!..you wake up and go to sleep everynight/ everyday hearing the water wash up on the sand...priceless!!! then on my balcony, i have a full sized hammock...unreal!!...the room was very nice, shower and bath very clean, and the fridge was refilled everyday (no charge)!..the only bad thing was the bed wasn't a king it was 2 singles pushed together, but still very comfortable. please do yourself a favor and pay the extra money for this room! don't make the same mistake that everyone i talked to made. (no jungle room!!!) one small problem we had was the air conditioner but i didnt stress it, because how much time do you really spend in the room. now for the beach...it was very nice and kept very clean. there was not too many rocks. the only place where you will see rock was down the coast - and that was because they have it as a site seeing area. all the pools were very clean and all the facilites were well maintained. there were people cleaning there daily. food: you must make reservations for all the resturants the day before in the lobby (approx: 7-8 am), but it is worth it. if by chance you don't get reservations, you will be eating buffet food every-night, and id rather be eating nothing if that were the case. all three resturants were very good & very clean (i have no complaints). drinks: they may have used probably the cheapest liquor i have ever tasted, however beer was very good and frozen drinks daquiris & pina coladas were right on point!! activities: during the day there is so much to do. you have a couple of free water sports available to you, aerobics & volleyball in/ out of the pool, and some demenstrations all throughout the resort. nightlife: ahhh its okay. they have some really nice shows in the thearter, and also have a club on the roof of the resort which is pretty cool and nice and

We went to the Oasis May of 2008. Rooms are plain rooms with no alarm clock or iron. We were in the jungle rooms which are about a 1/4 mile away from the beach and everything else. We do not recommend the jungle rooms. The Ocean was nice and so was the pools and the food. There is no ATM at the resort either so bring enough money!! It was OK for the cost but I would rather go somewhere a little nicer and more convenient.

Upon our arrival to the Grand Oasis Riviera Maya we were treated extremely well, the bartender at the lobby made us some refreshing cocktails that settled just right after a long and tiring trip. The bell boy was kind enough to take our luggage up to our room and gave us a quick tour of the room. We loved the fact that our room had a balcony ocean view and it was really relaxing to sit and enjoy the waves of the ocean. The hotels workers were very friendly and were always aware of our needs; they would help us every time we had questions or needed something. Everything was great except for the food. We were expecting to have more of a selection to eat at any of the restaurants at any time we wanted. The only place we could eat at any time was the buffet or the snack bar but all the other restaurants we had to make reservations one day ahead or else we could not eat there. The food at the buffet was not all that, it was like eating at a Home Town Buffet. After all I guess the customer service from the buffet servers made us forget about the food, they were always one top of things and so attentive.

This hotel's property is very deluxe and accommodating. The ocean view rooms are gorgeous--well worth the extra money to upgrade to ocean view. The rooms are large, well kept up and very nice. I have stayed up and down the Riviera Maya for 20 years. The reef just off the beach at this hotel is the most pristine I have yet seen. It does not show the damage often associated with well traveled areas. The food is reasonable, but not great. The male staff was very friendly, while the all the female staff were unfriendly to the point of being rude. We were put in a small, dirty, smelly room about 1/4 mile from the beach and main hotel complex.

The Grand Oasis was one of the best places I've stayed at in a long time. I felt very secure and my kids were able to do there own thing without my supervision.

This resort has a great location, especially beach was excellent. I can not say the samething for the hotel rooms. Rooms start with 4000 are terrible. I got one of the ocean view rooms, room was so old and dirty but we said lets be possitive and stayed there till I woke up a giand cockroach on my arm at 5 AM; then we changed the room. Altough AC even works very strong or does not work at all. Most of the staff are not able to speak english so you should take a dictionary with you. Also there are lizards on everywhere; but it is kind of fun when you are in the bathroom they take a shower or WC with you. You will never be alone there:-) If you are used to camping, this resort is great for you but if you are looking for comfort; definetly this is not a right choise for you...

The Grand Oasis Riviera Maya is a perfect combination of location, relaxed atmosphere, and amenities. Anything we wanted to eat or drink was available, and many different activities were offered on a daily basis. The staff were friendly and helpful as well. It is one hotel we will definitely be visiting again!

The Grand Oasis Riviera Maya is a great all inclusive hotel. The hotel seemed to cater more to European vacationers so the food was not what I was used to, but was very good. (I don't think you can get a good steak anywhere in Mexico). The only real complaint is the coffee, they should have at least one pot of Starbucks stashed somewhere. The beach is very nice, snorkeling was great, the pools were nice, the hotel was clean, the bars were fun - all in all it was a very fun time.

The Grand Oasis Riviera Maya was great! The beach and the ocean was absolutely gorgeous! Words can't describe. I really liked the smaller feel of this resort and that it wasn't crowded. The food was excellent and the specialty resurants were awesome. they have a sushi bar at the beach bar that was also excellent. We had a king bed (it was a true king, not two twins) that was so comfortable. My only complaint was the air condtioning in our room. It was on full blast the entire week, but never managed to get below about 73. Not horrible, but on some days, it would have been nice to come into a chilled room. The grounds and architecture were also georgeous. Overall, I would absolutely go back in a heartbeat.

The Riveria Maya is very modern in design which many other travelers seemed to complain about. I loved the resort. It was very pretty and clean. The food was delicious and the drinks were strong! The nightlife was lacking, as the clientle seemed to be older, however Playa del Carmen is not far and has great night life. I had a great vacation and would probably go back.

Do not stay in the rooms by the entrance. You are away from everything. If you get the right room you will be very pleased with this resort.

The hotel is beautiful, the lobby, the bars, the restaurants are gorgeous. But there are several downsides the hotel staff was not helpful at all. When we went to check in the desk clerk did not even greet us, I stood there for the longest time before he even acknowledged me. He gave me a room with one bed for me and my friend, so I went back down to the lobby to ask for a room with two beds, he told me they had nothing available until the next day, he can clearly see that I was upset so within about 10 seconds they all of a sudden had a room with two beds available. Coincidence?? I think not! Also, none of the rooms were clean we had to wait, no bellboys available, when we were between rooms we had to lug our own luggage around up and down the stairs. We had the run of the house Jungle view room, there is no jungle view and the room is very very far from the beach, restaurants, pools, etc. Also, did not feel safe to be in the building we were in. Our first night around 4am, someone was banging on our door and running away, they even called us in the middle of the night and hung up, the whole night was ruined because after that incident we could not even sleep. I brought this to the desk clerk's attention the next day and he said he would check in to it for me, but I never saw the desk clerk again and no one else ever made an attempt to resolve the issue. We had to ask for an iron at least 3 to 4 times, we finally got it after the 2nd day because I told them that I was very upset and needed an iron right away. The waiters in the buffet restaurant were quite rude, they would argue with me. We had a waiter bring us sodas with no ice, I told him we did not order that, we ordered just sodas and that we would like ice, he argued with me stating that this is what I ordered because that's what his boss told him I ordered. We tried over and over to explain to him but he just was not listening, until another waiter who was very pleasant came and explained to him that is not

This is the first small AI we had stayed at. After years of traveling 2-3 times a year, I can honestly say this was the most romantic resort even though it is not sold that way. We slept on the palapa beds on the beach instead of the room. Staff was excellent. Wonderful environment. We will be back!

Came here as a family vacation, but I'm sorry we chose this all-inclusive hotel. ROOMS: We stayed in one of the jungle rooms which is farthest from the water and restaurants. Our room was cramped for space, and many rooms were still under construction. We had no hangers, one outlet didnt work, no phone, and NO HOT WATER. The other rooms closer to the beach were a lot nicer, still NO HOT WATER (it wasn't even mildy warm, so I had to wash with washcloth to avoid freezing). Lots of ppl complaining at the front desk about lack of hot water, too. Couldn't change rooms cause they were booked to capacity. FOOD: The buffet is definitely the way to go. Not the greatest food, but you can pick the better things out. AVOID THE RESTAURANTS... the food sucks. We tried the italian (only the salad bar and pizza was good) the pasta dishes sucked. Sarape, the mexican restaurant, was horrible. You think you couldnt go wrong with mexican food in Mexico? That's what we thought. We sat for 1 hr to get our fajitas... and guess what they were bland. Sarape doubles as brazilian at dinner, think Fogo de Chao... this was the best restaurant food we had, though that's not saying much. Although the side dishes they opened with were encores from the buffet. We did have fun that night cause there was a mariachi type band & our server was funny and entertaining. Stick to the buffet. SURROUNDINGS: Akumal beach is beautiful, crystal waters. Snorkeling (gear provided by hotel - free) was the saving grace of the trip. Lots of fish, coral, and other inverts. The reef is easy to get to, even for inexperienced snorkelers. Kayaks are fun too. ENTERTAINMENT: Nothing much as far as nightlife, except hanging out at the bar. The fire dancer was awesome, but the other entertainers reminded us of a high school talent show. will probably come back to Mayan Riviera/Akumal area, but I will NEVER stay at this hotel again.

My bf and I stayed at the Grand Oasis Riviera Maya from Dec. 5- Dec. 12 and overall truly enjoyed our stay. Cons: ROOM: The room that we received was not good. It faced the jungle side number 2134. The shower in the room started leaking and it flooded the bathroom and some parts of the room. The front desk people were not very responsive and we needed to call several times for someone to come. They finally did fix the shower, but something else seemed to be leaking in the bathroom because there was always water on the floor. Our phone was also not working for 3 days and we had to keep waking to the front desk which was pretty far. SERVICE: The first few days of the stay the service was horrible, it took them 45 min to bring a burger and when ordering a drink at the buffet it would come when you are done with the meal. After few days we got used to the service and it seemed better. ENTERTAINMENT: There was not that much activities or entertainments going on at the resort. The night shows were just OK and few of them were canceled. PROS: FOOD: The food was wonderful at this resort. I have been to 5 different resorts in Mexico and this one by far had the best food. The food selection is great both in the buffet and a la carte restaurants. I actually liked the buffet better some nights, they had large variety of seafood, meat, and the best desserts. The sushi bar was also good and the sushi was pretty delicious and great if you don't want to eat at the buffet for lunch or just want a snack. Just don't order burgers at the sushi buffet, it will take forever until they bring it and they are also made from hot dog meat. BEACH: The beach was beautiful at the resort. Pretty white sand and clear blue water. I do recommend bringing water shoes because there are many sharp rocks under the water. They have many lounge chairs at the beach and few beach beds that you will need to reserve very early. PROPERTY: The grounds of the resort are beautiful and they hotel looks very modern

I was very displeased with my stay at the Grand Oasis Riviera Maya. Our fist night at the hotel (our plan was late and we arrived on Thrus night) there was a foul odor. I complained about this the next day (Friday). The patio exit was filled with standing water and I was sure the smell was coming from there. I was told by staff that a 2 hour treatment would be performed to clean the room. Friday evening when we arrived back at the room, the odor was not as strong, but was still present. I looked out the patio doors and noticed the water was not there anymore. When we awoke on Saturday morning, we exited through the sliding patio doors and saw sewerage covering the patio area. There was a foul smell and toilet paper and waste within the standing water. I immediately went to reception to complain about this and the young lady told me that she would address this with the Manager of Reception. I told her I would like another room. We left for the day and when I returned the Manager told me he had not been informed of the situation and there was no rooms available. I told him that I was not going to stay in that room one more night and went to pack my things. To say the least, I was very upset. The assistant manager was there when I went back to reception. I was talking to him when the Manager came up. Together they found a new room for us, however, when we went to the room there was a full size bed and a cot for a family of four. We left that hotel and did not go back. We stayed elsewhere.
