The Mayan Sea Gardens has different levels of accomodations. We stayed in the third level, on the 10th floor of a new tower with an ocean view. It was great. The pools were not heated or not heated sufficiently except the children's pool, which we did not use. The food was good and the servlce was great. They have daily specials on a certain drink each day that is 2 for 1. The room service was nice and it was not a long wait. Overall it was a great time, but I wish they would heat the pools in the winter.

My sister and I booked through RCI and got the Mayan Palace Tower. We had a top floor ocean front one bedroom which suited us very well. It was new, roomy and clean and perfect for sunsets. We did not see the Sea Garden rooms, but they definitely were old. The resort plans to eventually replace them all, but I would not take one of those. There was no ocean front restaurant. That was reserved for their time share pitches. The only restaurant was internal to the main building and somewhat limited in offerings. The main pool indeed is very cold and we did not get in. There is a small heated pool that was always full of children. There was another medium size pool that was cool but tolerable and we swam there. The ocean is nice with several palapas on a sandy beach with beach chairs and a beach side bar. The room was not well stocked with kitchen items -- no serving bowls, one dull knife, no stem ware, no napkings or salt or pepper. The location is in the north hotel zone so it's a 6 cab/pulmonia ride to the Golden Zone. We enjoyed our stay, but you need to be prepared for less than perfect.

Five of my friends and myself stayed here summer 07. Almost every single staff member was polite, friendly, and smiling at every opportunity (front desk, activities coordinators, and especially restaurant workers were extremely accommodating). Though there was no children in my group there always seemed to be kids activities. Rooms were very nice for price. HUGE POOL and BEACH. Don't go early summer because of jellyfish on beach. Fair distance away from heart of city compared to other hotels. Limited dining options with main restaurant, bar, and poolside dining. Nice market. Well kept grounds. Tolerant and protective for any inconveniences. Overall GREAT. Going back soon.

Nice outside but horrible rooms. Smell of mildew, bathroom was a nightmare. Expected King & 2 Queens. 1st room offered we refused. 2nd room offered had king & pull out tray under sofa with a cushion on it. Bedroom2 was a small windowless cave. Don't try to sleep here is you're over 5'5"". Kitchen 2-burner stove so small, could not put 2 pans on it at once. Had to buy a fry pan. No kettle, serving or microwave dishes, measuring cup, salad bowls. Microwave was broken. Only 1 dull cutting knife. No dishwasher. Gym is a joke. NOT EVEN A ONE STAR! "
