we had an ocean view room on the top floor which was the best part. the view was amazing especially the view of deer island and the valentinos club at night. it is within walking distance of many restaurants and has a wonderful private beach. there are several night clubs within walking distance also. if you are looking for a nice place to relax and have fun at this is the right hotel for you. the cleaning staff was amazing and trustworthy. we left money and valuables on the tables and beds and was right there when we came back. there are many better places to eat than the hotel restaurant by the beach. our food was cold when we recieved it. try the Panama 2 blocks away they have a great menu at very reasonable prices. great hotel overall and definatley will stay again soon.

We stayed at this hotel from 08/20/08 - 08/25/08. The hotel staffs are friednly and professional. The hotel have 4 pools and fitness room. It has wireless internet inside the room too. The ocean view is stunning from the room balcony but we were so disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. It has an odors and so moist. I have to use a room spary to help with odors. My bed linen has woman's hair on it and you can see little black bugs and ants on the wall. The matress was hard. I also felt uncomfortable with bathroom, everything is old and dark. Overall I was so disappointed with this hotel, wouldn't recommended you to stay in this hotel. This hotel has been there for almost 40+ years. It located in golden zone, many great restaurants and pubs are within distance walk from hotel. We like Mazatlan and we will go back again next year.

We selected a room with a view to the beach. This was the best part of it. The private beach is lovely and clean. We usually got up about seven and went for a walk on the beach right away. Cleanliness was great with staff picking up the garbage left at the palapas. You can walk to restaurants located within half a block, great shopping for souvenirs and things you needed to spend time on the beach or at one of the three pools located in the hotel garden. Towels are available daily. Because of restaurants, such as the Panama, which is located two blocks from the hotel and has a great menu, the restaurant at the hotel was adequate. We loved the pools and the little restaurant by the main pool is handy. Maid and laundry service was outstanding. Will go back again and again. Tour service needs some improvement.

Reception was very friendly, the rooms were large and so was the bathroom/shower. Mattresses were a bit too hard. Nice balcony overlooking the garden. Lots of large tropical trees and flowers. The hotel was directly on the beach with lots of easy access, lots of talapas for shade and plenty of chairs. Waiters at the beach. The large restaurant overlooked the ocean. 3 years ago the food was excellent and we ate there every night for 14 days this time it was only fair and we only dined there twice. It was a beautiful hotel with lots of pools, 2 hot tubs and also very kid friendly with plenty of activities for them. Close to of shopping and entertainment. For a $ 5.00 taxi ride you could go to the old town of Mazatlan, the harbor, the aquarium and lots of other interesting places. The hotel sold us a Jungle Tour which was absolutly the best. So yes, we will go there again, hopefully next year.

I took my 18 yr old daughter to Mazatlan for spring break. The Playa was a very nice hotel, clean, safe and in a great location at the beginningof the Golden Zone. There really were not any activities other than laying on the beach and being bombarded by the beach vendors. Once you get a little tan and have been there a few days they quickly moved on after a "no". There are tons of other activities around Mazatlan. Take the Pulmonias but negotiate your fare up front. There are tons of restaurants. The hotel is a little pricey. try Pancho's 1 block down on the beach, food is great and very reasonable. Panama's is one block to the left and one block to the right. Similar to Denny's, you can get more American food and prices are reasonable. if you like to fish do a day trip to lake El Salto at the Angler's Inn- first class all the way! makes for a long day but it is great bass fishing. The Bull fight is not for the feint of heart. Interesting, but very gory. Try a 4 wheeler trip, riding on the beach is a blast. Para sailing is awesome, but be careful on the takeoff, I broke my tailbone. Overall, Mazatlan is a great vacation and Playa was a good hotel. Not alot to do at hotel, but lay by the beach or pool. I would recommend it.

I spent 10 days at this hotel and was very pleased with the location and proximity to restaurants. The beds are extremely hard which is a negative for me. They are also short as I am 6'3. The inside room was quiet, but isolated, so I requested another room. When I spoke to Carmina the manager, I was given a nice room with king size bed and no-smoking, and a view of the ocean. Were I to repeat the trip, which I may, I would spend the extra fees for an ocean view room. It's worth it. Went to the Panama for breakfast and a couple times to McD's which are very close. The conciege was extremely helpful in contacting the El Bigotes restaurant where I lost my wallet. They found it, and I got it back intact. They serve wonderful Carnitas in a garden setting.

This resort is beautiful. The grounds are gorgeous and kept immaculate. The rooms, though clean, are very dated and could use updating. I've read many complaints regarding the hard beds but ours were comfortable. The private beach is lovely and clean. We found the food to be very disapointing. We enjoyed the little restarant overlooking the main pool the most. The breakfasts were good and Roman, the waiter, was a joy. Overall, all of our food/restaurant experiences were disapointing. I would return to this resort again if it wasn't in Mazatlan.

As I said, It has the flavor of Mexico. Unfortunately for most travelers they think they eed to go to the large fancy hotels in New Mazatlan. They miss out on the experience of seeing and enjoyng the real Mexico. The Playa has a stable staff, a clean hotel, good food and great clean beaches. We have stayed here several times before. We can't remember if it is four or five times and it is still a wonderful relaxing place to stay. There are numerous restaurants within walking distance and the food is great. The one drawback is that there are also many shops for souvenirs and jewlery. My wife thoroughly enjoyed herself.

The beach was the best but if you want a cabana get up early and claim it. Most were reserved with towels and stuff by the time we woke up and we are early risers. The location was very convient to walk to stores and resturants. It was a little noisy, lots of kids and family groups so not a good place for a romantic getaway. The beds were hard and the sheets a little scratchy. They could have been better. We had an ocean view room and that was spectacular. Also, I loved the pool and the little resturant by the pool.

The Hotel Playa Mazatlan was beautifully located right on the beach, with bungalows in the sand for the use of the hotel guests. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the room was very comfortable and clean. Air-conditioning kept the room cool, and the filtered-water tap in the bathroom kept the stomach bugs away. Great location, with restaurants and shopping a walk away.

Our ocean view room was kept immaculately clean and well supplied. The hotel staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Most staff personnel speak English and were eager to provide assistance. The location is amid the tourist zone and made for a short walk to restaurants and shopping areas.

the place was extremely crowded...this time..... there were ocean conditions that kept us off the water, therefore all the pools were too crowded an too hot and not as clean as the other times

The Playa hotel was very comfortable - the rooms and bathrooms were large and clean. The reading lights were very good - the TV selections to both English and Spanish stations was excellent. The breakfast buffets were reasonably priced and very good. The evening live music on the patio overlooking the ocean was excellent. The swimming pool was clean and excellent for lap swimming. Overall, I would rate it as a very good experience and recommend it highly to all my friends.

This hotel has a large staff willing to make your stay pleasent, you can feel it in theire friendliness. A great view of the bay at night and a good beach.

We upgraded to a room with a sea view, we would have appreciated a coffee maker in the room, but apart from that, and the fact that the mattress had a plastic sheet over it, making the bed uncomfortably hot, the room was what we expected, and the staff were helpful.
