The rooms are very small and even tho we were upgraded to a suite it was even small. The game room was a mess and nothing much was going on. The sofa in our room was like concrete and a foam cover over it. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone even if they are on a tight budget, you can do so much better.

My fiancee and I stayed here and were pleased for the most part. It was our first All-Inclusive trip so we didn't know what to expect. Our original room was a standard and was clean but dark since it was on the first floor. We upgraded to a suite which was worth the money. We stayed on the 4th (top) floor of one of the buildings and had a nice breezy and sunny room. The bed was a little too hard for our taste, but the room was clean and well kept. The food was good, but not great. There was enough variation for our 5 day stay, but it would get old if we stayed much longer. We ate at Maria's Restaurant (included with all-inclusive) for dinner which was very good. The only catch is that you have to reserve a spot before 11AM and they are only open for dinner. I recommend eating there a few times during your stay. The drinks were mediocre quality at best, but they did flow as freely as you like. The snack bar at the hotel was lame as was the snack bar at the beach. At the beach, they served peanuts and nachos and that was it for food. At the hotel there were small sandwiches cold cuts, hot dogs and of course peanuts and nachos. There are bottles of wine and a beer tap for the guests to help themselves as well. The beach is several blocks away but there is a free shuttle every 1/2 hour. It's an easy walk too. Overall, it was a good value. For a budget trip I was pleased. I would recommend this hotel as long as you don't expect 5 star food, beverage and location.

I booked my honeymoon directly with the hotel in December and we arrived on Feb 25 late at night for the first night of our honeymoon to be told the resort was overbooked and that they had no rooms for us. We complained but they didn't care. We were sent off to the Playacar Palace and offered a small room with twin beds and no ocean view. You could not even hear the ocean. We had paid for an ocean view suite at the Royal. We immediately went back to the Royal the next morning to complain to a supervisor, X, who was so rude to us that other guests in the lobby heard the way he was treating us and came over to argue with him on our behalf. They refused to refund the money we had overpaid to stay at a nicer resort in a better room. We were offered only their romantic private dinner on the beach as compensation but when I told him that I had booked that dinner when I booked the room he still refused to refund the 250 I had paid for it. In talking with other guests in the lobby and hearing from other people coming in to complain about being sent to other hotels they do this routinely to guests. My husband used to work in a hotel so we know that hotels do overbook but standard procedure is to refund the money for the inconvencience and not getting the room that was paid for but real resorts refused. We spent countless hours arguing with supervisors to no avail. We were finally sent to the Grand Caribe in Cancun which is next to the Royal Cancun which they refused to give us a room at. We heard from lots of people who had been refused their paid for rooms at the Royal. We even heard from one couple who had paid for a timeshare at the Royal who were sent off to another hotel. They get you in with the nice resorts and you pay to stay at the Royal and once they have your money they send you off to a lesser quality hotel, that might not even be in their company. I think its a scam. I strongly urge you to book elsewhere to avoid a ruined vacation. I can also tell you since we

This is our second stay at this resort. We enjoyed this resort even though it was not near the water. It is about a 10 minute walk down 5th Ave to the beach at their sister resort. You can use your wristband to get drinks on the beach .. try the nachos/salsa, they are great. The Real is an average resort, no frills so if you are looking for "frills" look elsewhere. This has all you need, nice accomodations, nice buffet, good drinks and an average swimming area. The resort has nightly entertainment having Mexican dancers perform dances of their culture. The resort offers a buffet or you can go to Maria's which is in the same area but you need a reservation (still a part of the All-Inclusive). We did this one night and ordered lobster tails (they do charge for the lobster tails 15.00 each) .. well worth the money. The Real is at the beginning of the 5th ave. shops in Playa Del Carmen. I enjoyed this area much better then Cancun. #1 even though it has bars it is more laid back and casual then "party till you vomit" atmosphere, #2 The shopping is much better, you have a wide selection to choose from #3 There are lots of restaurants to choose from if you don't want to eat at the resort. There is plenty of night life in the area .. just depends on how crazy you care to get. I recommend this resort and this area to anyone.

my boyfriend and i just returned today from our vacation and i felt the need to write a review due to our wonderful stay!! apon arrival we were greeted at the front desk and our room was ready and the bell guy was happy to take our bags and show us to our room. the room was very nice and clean!! the bed are pretty hard but everything else in the room is nice. the pool area was a little less than what i was expecting but we were at the beach most of the time. the private beach club is a short 10min walk away or there is a shuttle ride that takes you and picks you up every 15 minutes. there is a ton of activities to do once you arrive at the beach and the open bar is right there. the water is clear and beautiful. the food at the hotel is excellent. there is a buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner or you can choose to have a dinner service at the maria's restaraunt, both are excellent!! the bartender in the main lobby marcos was awesome! we found out that a couple days of our stay he also worked at the beach club which was really nice. over all our vacation was fantastic and i would stay here again. it helps if you know spanish but everyone speaks really good english. you should bring a lot of singles because it is very nice to tip everyone that helps you out with a dollar. they work very hard to make your stay as wonderful as possible!!
